Workshop on Debating is an event that is specially held for someone who has an interest in debate. This event was held on Sunday, September 22, 2019 in seminar room, at the GK 1 (W. S. Rendra) 2nd Floor of Faculty of Languages and Arts, Yogyakarta State University. The committee came from public speaking department of Foreign Language UKM, SAFEL, and its sub department, English Debating Society, that had 14 people in total. There were 31 participants attending this event and they came from several universities in Yogyakarta and Central Java.
At the Workshop on Debating (WOD), there was a great speaker, Noel Hasinton, who had achieved many achievements. As for this occasion, participants who were not a member of SAFEL was charged 30 thousand rupiahs and those who were a member of SAFEL, were charged 25 thousand rupiahs. Participants were given several facilities such as seminar kit, snack, lunch, certificate, knowledge, and new friends. In addition, the theme for this event was “be respectful speaker,be the greatest debater” and it was aimed to inspire the participants to be a great debater that could be started by becoming a good and respectful speaker.
Moreover, the event was arranged very well which was started by an opening from president of SAFEL. Next, basic knowledge of debating especially using British Parliamentary was given to the participants. It was then continued by a live debating performance from EDS to give a real example. Right after taking a break, participants were guided to have a practice regarding the knowledge they had learned that day. That’s a wrap of WOD this year! Let’s meet on the next WOD!!
