UNESHCO (UNY English Competition) is a National English Competition for university students held annually by UKM Bahasa Asing “SAFEL” (Student Activity Forum of Foreign Languages) at Yogyakarta State University (UNY). This competition is one of the agenda items in commemorating Dies Natalis UNY, which consists of the speech and micro-teaching competitions. Accordingly, every year UNESHCO collaborates with other competitions in UNYFEST (the UNY Festival).
This year’s UNESCHO #8 was held offline on Friday and Saturday, May 19–20, 2023, at the Cine Club building, Faculty of Language, Arts, and Culture, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta. UNESHCO #8 came with a grand theme: “Make Your Move, Build Your Creativity, and Be The Winner!”.
The first day of UNESHCO #8 was the preliminary round for the speech competition. In this round, the participants presented their prepared speeches in the chamber. After the assessment, the top 8 finalists continued to the semi-finals without preparation. Meanwhile, the micro-teaching competition assessment session was also conducted on the first day. In this session, judges directly assessed the 10 participants who were selected through the lesson plan that the participants had previously submitted. From this point on, three participants were selected to become the winners of the Micro-teaching competition.
On the second day of UNESHCO #8, the final round of the top 3 finalists of the speech competition was held live. In this round, the finalists have been given a video, and they have been given questions in the video. The finalists delivered their speeches, and at the end of this round, there was also a Q&A session.
The results of the speech and micro-teaching competitions were announced during the UNYFEST #11 closing ceremony on May 20th, 2023, at ISDB Lab, 2nd floor, Faculty of Sociology and Politics, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta. The winner of the speech competition is Razaqa Hariz, a delegate from UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta. Followed respectively by Husnun Eka Meilani from Universitas Gadjah Mada in the 1st Runner-up and Alfiza Rahma Mardhika Pamula from the University of Indonesia in the 2nd Runner-up. After that, Adlina Nur Azri from Universitas Sebelas Maret was chosen as the favorite speaker.
Meanwhile, in micro-teaching, Fadila Nafiri Arif from Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta is in first Place. Followed as the runners-up by Grace Imanuela Oktavianus from Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta and Putri Azzahra Salsabila from Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta.
