Speaking Club 2024- Speak Like a Star, Transform Your Stage to a Spotlight! Speaking Club is an annual event organized by the Public Speaking Department of SAFEL (Student Activity Forum of Foreign Language), intended only for SAFEL members and crews. It is a forum for learning, finding, and exploring the SAFEL members’ and crews’ English-speaking skills. Here, we provide a place where the participants can practice and directly implement their English-speaking skills. The Speaking Club routinely invites foreigners from various countries every year. This year, the Speaking Club invited one foreigner, Abu Horaira Tanveer from Pakistan and we held it fully offline.
Speaking Club 2024 carried the theme ‘Speak Like a Star, Transform Your Stage from Script to Spotlight’ symbolizes a dynamic journey that empowers you to step out from behind the scenes into the spotlight with confidence. Mastering the art of impactful communication, commanding attention, and shining brightly in every presentation. Speaking Club 2024 was held in October-November 2024, and the persons in charge of Speaking Club 2024 were Bagas Putra Yulianto (Bagas PY) and Najwa Nahar Rakhmah (Wawa).
Different from the previous year, the 2024 Speaking Club was held with four weekly meetings and two big meetings. And this year Speaking Club combined with SERUM, there are crews and members. As a result, the number of participants exceeds the existing target, quantitatively, Speaking Club 2024 activities have reached the target participants, as many as 104 participants are entitled to certificates according to the qualifications made out of the 80 targeted. During the Speaking Club, participants were divided into 10 groups, namely, with the name horror movie. There are Annabelle, Pengabdi Setan, Suzzanna, Badarawuhi, Indigo, Chucky, Conjuring, Danur, Insidious, The Nun. Each group consists of approximately 15-20 members and two coaches. In the weekly meetings, each group had a routine meeting once a week, but big meetings were carried out together and accompanied by the invited foreigners.
Participants were given various exciting topics in each weekly meeting to discuss later using English. The topics were from the idea of the committee and the themes that were considered easy to discuss and attractive for members SAFEL, topics for the Crews were deeper to get to know each other the department members. Then, in the first big meeting, we introduced the speaker, and we had a sharing session about the speaker’s experience learning to speak English. It was continued with a group discussion where the participants and coaches introduced themselves to each other.
Come to an end, the final big meeting of Speaking Club 2024 was a remarkable thing. We conducted the meeting with every participant, and the audience had to wear a costume as the final project of the Speaking Club was performing a parody drama of the group name. Each group performed with various parodies of drama and spectacular costumes.
There was also a reward for the participants in the categories of the best Participant, the best Drama, the best Actor, the best Actress, and the best Team the winners got medals. All participants got pins as a reward for their hard work in the Speaking Club 2024. We also gave a gift to our native speaker Abu with a blankon the traditional hat of Java. We had an enjoyable time and got a lot of experience in the Speaking Club 2024, and we hope that the Speaking Club 2025 will have better creation and innovation. See you in Speaking Club 2025!
