New Member Recruitment (PAB) is an annual work program organized by the Human Resources Development (HRD) division of the Student Activity Forum of Foreign Languages (UKM Bahasa Asing “SAFEL”) at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta. This program serves as the first step for new students who are passionate about learning foreign languages and eager to grow within the SAFEL community. The 2025 PAB carries the theme “SAFEL’s Inner Journey: Feel Every Emotion, Speak Every Language, Grow Beyond Limits.” The theme reflects a journey within oneself to understand emotions, identity, and expression through language. Inspired by the movie Inside Out, it reminds every participant that emotions such as Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust all play an essential role in shaping one’s growth. Through this theme, SAFEL invites new members to embrace their feelings, communicate sincerely, and find strength in their unique emotional and linguistic journey.
This year’s PAB was held offline from August to September 2025 and was divided into several exciting stages. The journey began with Pameran Prestasi on August 6 at GOR UNY, where SAFEL showcased its achievements, departments, and various creative projects. The event served not only as an introduction to SAFEL but also as a space to share its culture and collaborative spirit. New students were welcomed by enthusiastic committee members who shared stories and insights about the organization. Many new students stopped by the booth, asked questions about SAFEL, and took photos with SAFEL’s distinctive display, creating an atmosphere full of laughter and curiosity. After the Pameran Prestasi, registration was opened in two batches, from August 6–10 for the first batch and August 11–15 for the second.
Following the registration, the Studium Generale took place on August 23–24, 2025 in Karawitan Laboratory, Faculty of Arts, Language, and Culture, UNY. During this session, each department and subdepartment presented their work programs, goals, and distinctive characteristics. The event aimed to provide a deeper understanding of SAFEL’s structure, activities, and values. Candidates actively engaged in the Q&A session, showing great enthusiasm and curiosity toward the programs. The interaction between the presenters and participants created a warm and inspiring atmosphere, highlighting how SAFEL values both teamwork and diversity of ideas.
The interview stage followed on September 6–7, where candidates met with the organization’s executive board and department heads. Each participant was given the opportunity to share their thoughts, motivations, and understanding of SAFEL. The interviews were conducted in a friendly yet professional manner, allowing candidates to express their personalities and commitment comfortably. The stage concluded with high spirits and optimism for the next step of the journey.
The final stage, Inauguration, was held on September 21, 2025 in Karawitan Laboratory, Faculty of Arts, Language, and Culture, UNY, as the grand celebration welcoming new members into SAFEL. The event began with presentations from each department and subdepartment, introducing their ongoing and upcoming programs. This moment served as an exciting preview for the new members, inspiring them to take part in SAFEL’s future activities. One of the highlights of the day was the costume parade, where participants showcased traditional outfits representing SAFEL’s six focus countries: the United Kingdom, South Korea, Japan, China, France, and Germany. The colorful parade, filled with cheers and laughter, became a symbol of cultural unity and joy shared among all participants.
PAB 2025 was not just a recruitment program, but a heartfelt journey of discovery and growth. Through SAFEL’s Inner Journey, participants learned that language is more than just words; it is emotion, connection, and self-expression. As new members officially joined the organization, they carried with them the spirit to learn, to connect, and to grow beyond limits. With every emotion felt and every language spoken, the journey within SAFEL continues to shape meaningful experiences and unforgettable memories.
