“One Day in Action,” or ODIA, is a workshop activity aimed at training SAFEL’s crews and members in public speaking skills. This year, ODIA focused on MCing skills. ODIA 2023 brought up the theme “Enchant the Crowd to Enjoy the Show”.
One Day in Action really needs to be carried out considering that there are so many SAFEL events that require qualified and trained MCs. It is hoped that ODIA will be able to foster the interest of SAFEL’s crews and members in practicing their speaking skills, especially in chairing an event. Besides that, ODIA is also the essence of the public speaking activity itself, which includes how to construct and perform a good MC’ing.
This year, ODIA was held on Sunday, February 26th. Fortunately, ODIA 2023 was carried out offline at the UNY Student Center Hall on the East Side on the 2nd floor with an activity format like a material session with an experienced speaker and continued with a practical session. There were 30 participants who registered for this activity.
The guest speaker for this event is an extraordinary speaker, namely Arif Hidayat. He is an expert in the field of MC’ing. The delivery material by Arif further narrowed the discussion towards the types of events, the good character of the MC, vocal and intonation when chairing an event.
After the delivery of the material and the Q&A session, it was continued with a practical session followed by all participants, who were divided into 3 groups based on the types of events (formal, non-formal, and semi-formal). The practical was done in the form of reading a MC’s text based on each type of event.
In the practical session, each group was guided by one person, the liaison officer. LO directed the participants to read a MC’s text and put it into practice one by one. At the end of the session, the leader of the group led a discussion among the group members to select one person to be their representative, who would deliver their MC-ing in front of the participants.
After the group discussion session was finished, it was continued with the delivery of MCs by each group’s representatives. The delivery of the first MC is a formal event, the second MC is a non-formal event, and the last performance is a semi-formal event. The MCs delivered by the participants were directly assessed by the guest speaker and ended with awards. Among others, there was one category in the award, namely, BEST MC IN ODIA 2023. Last but not least, we would like to send our gratitude to God for the successful implementation of this event and thank all of the participants who joined and supported One Day in Action 2023.
