MC Club is an annual program of the Public Speaking Department of UKM SAFEL UNY. This event aims to increase public speaking skills, especially in MCing. This year, MC Club was held offline, with the type of semi-formal MC text. MC Club was held with the theme “Light Up the Stage, Shine Bright Light a Star.” This year’s MC Club was held with 6 meetings, consisting of 2 big meetings and 4 weekly meetings. With 32 registrants, participants were divided into 4 groups with group names that are planets, including Mars, Mercury, Venus, and Saturn. Each group was guided by 2 coaches who were SAFEL administrators from various departments.
In this event, we were joined by Kak Rahma Rasendria as a trainer at MC Club 2024. She is an alumnus of SAFEL’s Public Speaking Department who also has experience as a professional MC. Kak Rahma provided useful material to support MC skills to the participants. The first big meeting was held on October 5, 2024, with details of the agenda, namely an explanation of MC Club, introducing of the main coach and the coaches, and group distribution. Kak Rahma gave the first materials about the definition of MC, types of MC, and also what we should have to become a great MC. There is a Q&A session where the participants can ask about the materials to Kak Rahma.
MC Club coaches accompany participants at the Big Meeting, in addition to the materials and exercises carried out by trainers. Every week, participants try to bring MC text starting from the opening, body, closing, and final project in the form of a video of the MC text as a whole, which is uploaded on social media. The final project collection is also carried out by 25 participants on their respective Instagram social media.
After the implementation of 4 weekly meetings, on November 3, 2024, the final big meeting was held. Participants met again with our great trainer, Kak Rahma, who provided material related to how MCs improvise in every atmosphere and tips on becoming professional MCs. In this session, representatives of each group presented the final project directly and received feedback from KAk Rahma. Then, the awards were announced, which consisted of the best final project, the best final project, and group awards, namely the best group, the most progressive group, the most diligent group, and the most solid group. This year, the winner of the final project is Karina Natalia, and the best participant is Namira Sifa Maharani. There is Venus as the best group, Mars as the most diligent group, Saturnus as the most progressive group, and Mercurius as the most solid group in MC Club 2024.
