Learning Media is one of the work-programs from the CCU-LM department. Learning Media aims to provide an interactive and educative learning media to help members and society learn about foreign languages and cultures. Because of the pandemic, Learning Media #1 2022 was held online on the Wordwall platform from May 30th, 2022 to June 5th, 2022. Learning Media #1 focuses on language with the theme “SALVENTURES: Sail the Language through Venerable Cultures“ Bringing the concept of sailors and pirates, Learning Media #1 invited us to sail the ocean and play various fun language games to learn and get the treasures.

Learning Media #1 consists of 6 languages: Chinese, English, French, German, Japanese, and Korean. The first language is Chinese. This is the first year Chinese is used on SAFEL’s Learning Media. We used the simple quiz game model and cloud theme. It consists of ten questions related to daily sentences and vocabulary. In total, 23 participants have already played this game.

The second language is English. We used an unjumbled sentence model, so people can learn how to structure a sentence. It consists of ten questions. At the end of the period, 51 participants had already played this game.

The next language is French. We used the balloon pop game. Participants need to pop the balloon with the correct answer, so the answer drops on the train to finish the level. This game has 10 levels with 10 questions. 19 participants have already finished this game.

The fourth language is German. We used a “drag and drop” game. Participants are required to drag the correct meaning to the German vocabulary related to food and beverage. This game has 10 vocabulary words that need to be matched with their meanings. The total number of participants that have finished this game is 26.

The fifth game is for the Japanese language. We used to hit the mole game. Participants are required to hit the mole that has the correct answer to the question. This game has 10 levels to complete. 20 people have already played this game.

The last game is a Korean language game using the airplane game. Participants need to fly the plane to the cloud that has the correct answer. This game has 10 levels with 10 questions related to color. At the end of the period, 30 people had already played this game.

The total number of players in Learning Media #1 is 169 participants. The six players that have the highest score and have followed the rules in each language, have a right to get the treasure. The winners are announced on SAFEL’s official Instagram, @safeluny. Learning Media #1 has already exceeded the target, hence we can say that the Learning Media #1 is successful.

Thank you for the enthusiasm from all of the participants, the help from members of the CCU-LM department as the committee, the language expert that helped us supervise the question, and SAFEL’s PI-PH who gave recommendations and help. We hope that what you have learnt from this learning media #1 about several foreign languages will be helpful for you.
