Fesbud aims to introduce international culture to the general public. This event is not only aimed at Yogyakarta State University students but also at all levels of society. The existing cultural presentation is packaged in the form of a festival with the purpose of making the audience enjoy and have fun during the event. Several foreigners and guest stars who attended became our media to introduce existing international cultures.
This event was held on March 21, 2023, at the UNY Auditorium. With the theme “Vagabond: A Journey to the Places with a Mind-Blowing Experience”. We want to invite the audience to be able to travel to existing countries simply by listening to stories from foreigners.
This year, Fesbud was held offline after three years of being held online. The condition of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has declined, has greatly impacted the implementation of Fesbud this year. Of course, everyone has high expectations for this, so we, as the committee, put a lot of effort into making this event a success.
The event was opened with the Ratoeh Jaroe dance and then continued with a speech delivered by the Head of Fesbud, the President of the Foreign Language UKM “SAFEL”, and a representative from the chancellor. After that, the event was filled with talk shows from foreigners who were present. Safelite and SDC are of course Fesbud’s regular guest stars and were able to enliven the ongoing event, as were a band from the French Language Education Study Program Student Association, namely Hipercoustique. Lastly, there is Bunchaechum.
Foreigners who participated in celebrating Fesbud this year came from France, Slovakia, China, Japan, and South Korea. As well as one speaker representing Indonesia. We provide several stands to represent the foreigners. At the stand, foreigners served free food to be distributed to the audience. The food is typical food from their country, which they cook themselves, accompanied by their respective LO. For example, the Japanese stand serves dumplings. This is the main attraction to attract the audience to be able to talk with foreigners.
On the stage, there is a talk show session to invite foreigners to talk with each other and the MCs. In this segment, the audience can ask questions directly to foreigners. So that general questions addressed to them can be answered clearly in this segment.
The special thing we did this year was hold a Coswalk session. Fesbud opened a cosplay competition to attract the public’s interest. So a lot of the audience who attended this event The competition presented by us was rewarded, so the enthusiasm of the participants was very lively.
Fesbud closed with a very enjoyable SDC performance. The whole audience danced with them. After performing several dances, Fesbud finally ended. This year’s Fesbud was visited by many people, whose number exceeded our expected target. We hope yesterday’s Fesbud can leave a pleasant memory for the audience. We prepared for this event with hard work and cooperation with each other.
