Festival Budaya Internasional, also known as Fesbud, is an annual event coordinated by Cross-Cultural Understanding and Learning Media or CCU-LM of Student Activity Forum of Foreign Languages, Yogyakarta State University or SAFEL UNY. The purpose of this event is to introduce international cultures to general public, particularly UNY students. Aside from that, audiences can develop their English skills as a foreign language for communication.
Fesbud is usually hosted offline in UNY’s auditorium, with a variety of activities such as international talk shows, performances by native speakers, food stands from the foreigners, costume stands, game stands, and photo booths. While attending this show, visitors can do many things, such as interacting with foreigners directly, testing traditional food, getting new acquaintances, taking pictures with traditional costumes, and learning new cultures there.
Unfortunately, due to unexpected conditions, Fesbud could not be held as usual in Auditorium UNY. This is the second time Fesbud is held in online concept. We bring “HALCYON: Discover the Treasure Trove of Beautiful Memories” as our theme for this year. We provide new experiences for audiences in learning cultures together. Fesbud was held online on YouTube SAFEL UNY OFFICIAL on March 28th, 2021.
As we mentioned before, Fesbud will give you some new experiences during the show based on the theme. HALCYON, Fesbud 2021 concept, is a denoting a period of time in the past that was idyllically happy and peaceful. We hope that audiences can remember their old days in the past that will bring happiness for them nowadays.
This year, we welcomed native speakers from Australia, France, Japan, Korea, Thailand, and Turkey, as well as Papua, Indonesia’s delegate. We did not only invited the speakers but we also brought guest stars; Safelite, SDC, Traditional Dance, and Iris’s Dance Crew so the audiences the audiences can participate in a live chat while watching the performances. In addition, we had an Instagram Q&A session about the event which makes this event more colourful and fun. Thank you for watching this event! We will meet again next year! –Muhlis
