Festival Budaya Internasional or International Cultural Festival is an annual event holds by Cross Cultural Understanding and Learning Media (CCU-LM) Departement under Student Activity Forum of Foreign Languages (SAFEL) UNY. This event aims to introduce different cultures from various countries to Indonesian, especially UNY students. Not only that, this event allows the participants to practice their foreign language skills.
Festival Budaya Internasional 2019 was held on 21st March, 2019 at Auditorium UNY. This year, we brought up the theme “UTOPIA: Million Folk, Billon Lore, Amazing Folklore”. Utopia is an imagined place or state of things in which everything is perfect. In this event, we, as the committee wanted to provide a place where the participants could find many interesting and wonderful things by learning other countries’ folklore. Why folklore? Because by learning about folklore, we can find out more about the cultures of a country.
In this year event, we invited native speakers from seven countries: United States, Japan, France, South Korea, Germany, China, and Mexico. Also, we introduced Indonesian culture from Sumbawa, Nusa Tenggara Barat. During the event, the speakers would do talkshow and performed some amazing performances at the stage. The participants could interact with the native speakers by playing a mini game called “Ask Me Please” where both the participant and the native speakers could ask a question to each other related to folklore and culture. At every stand, the participants also could taste the original foods from other countries and took picture together. We provided costume booth where the participants could try other countries’ traditional costume. also, there are many booths for merchandise, photo, games, food and drink.
However, a festival isn’t complete without guest star. So, this year we brought up amazing guest stars with spectacular performances to enliven this event. They are: Gochikara, Hipercoustique, Buchaechum, Schmetterling, SDC, Safelite, and Diandras. Are you ready for the next Festival Budaya Internaisonal?
