New Member Recruitment (PAB) is an annual work program organized by the Human Resources Development (HRD) to recruit new members for the Foreign Language Student Organization (UKM BAHASA ASING) “SAFEL” at Yogyakarta State University (UNY). This year’s PAB carries the theme, “SAFEL’s Wizarding World: Discover Your Magic, Embark on an Enchanted Journey, and Forge Unbreakable Bonds.” The theme encourages new members to discover their unique potential, embark on an adventurous journey, and build strong bonds with fellow members. SAFEL’s activities are designed to help them develop new skills and experience something extraordinary.
This year’s PAB was held offline from August to September 2024 and included several stages: Display UKM, registration, Studium Generale, interviews, the announcement of new members, and finally, the inauguration.
The first stage, Display UKM, was held at GOR UNY on August 7, 2024. This stage aimed to introduce UKM BAHASA ASING “SAFEL” to the new students of Yogyakarta State University. New students could visit the SAFEL booth, collect stamps, and learn more about SAFEL. The committee was on hand to answer any questions and encourage students to register.
The second stage was registration, which opened in two batches: the first from August 7 to August 11, 2024, and the second from August 12 to August 16, 2024.
After registration, there was the Studium Generale, which took place on August 24–25, 2024. This stage aimed to provide a deeper introduction to SAFEL for the new candidates. Each department presented its work programs and opened a Q&A session to allow the candidates to gain a better understanding of SAFEL’s activities. The event was highly engaging, with everyone excited to learn about SAFEL’s programs and eager to contribute.
Next was the interview stage, where the candidates were interviewed by each department head. They were asked questions related to the knowledge shared during the Studium Generale. The candidates responded well and performed admirably.
On September 13, 2024, the announcement of new SAFEL members was made, with the results shared on SAFEL’s website and Instagram.
The final stage was the inauguration, held on September 22, 2024. This event celebrated the efforts of the candidates who had completed the selection process. Joy was evident on their faces as they were officially welcomed as members of SAFEL. They expressed excitement about all the future activities and experiences they would share as part of the organization.
The hope for these new members is that they will find their path and enjoy their journey within SAFEL. They will have the opportunity to develop new skills and form meaningful friendships.
