Learning a foreign language, especially until you are fluent in the language, provides many useful benefits for yourself. The benefits of learning and mastering foreign languages include improving your skills, helping in education to work, and opening connections with the outside world. So, isn’t it important to master a foreign language?
FOLT as one of the departments in SAFEL that also covers foreign language training provides a program for that. Minggu Lingua (MINGLING) is a program from FOLT that provides the SAFEL crew with foreign language training. Minggu Lingua is free of charge, this program was held from July 2nd to July 25th, 2024. The language chosen this year is German with Frau Suhaila as the tutor, and she was a SAFEL member in 2020.
Therefore, the committee conducted open registration from June 17th to 30th with a target of 10 participants. In less than two weeks, the number of participants who registered had met the target. Meetings are held twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 16.00 WIB. And the location of this year’s MINGLING is around UNY.
In the first and second week, the meeting was held in the hallway of the 3rd floor student center and we learned to get acquainted with German and learned to mention hobbies in German. The third meeting was held in the second-floor hall of the east wing and we learned about the names of places and transportation, Frau Suhaila also invited participants to play dominoes as a learning medium. In the third meeting, the meeting was held outdoors at the Taman Alas Randu UNY. Frau Suhaila prepared games for guessing jobs in German, participants were formed into two teams to compete who was the fastest and right to finish it.
For assignments and materials, the committee used Google Classroom media to facilitate participants’ access. However, summaries of the materials are also shared through posters uploaded to SAFEL’s Instagram and Polos so that others can still participate in learning German. For the final exam, participants had to attend at least 6 meetings to be eligible to take the final exam. The three participants with the highest exam scores received rewards from the committee.
Through this German edition of Lingua Week, the SAFEL crew is expected to gain new experiences through the language learned, and is expected to add insight not only about the language but also the culture in Germany. The breakthrough of learning outdoors adds to the spirit of learning with a new atmosphere. We hope that Minggu Lingua 2025 can be better. See you on Minggu Lingua 2025!
