MC Club is an annual program of the Public Speaking Department at UKM Bahasa Asing “SAFEL” UNY. This event aims to increase the public speaking skills of participants, especially in MC-ing. This year, MC Club was held offline and online (hybrid) with the theme “Expand the Experience, Empowering the Audience”. Same as the previous year, MC Club had 7 meetings with details: 4 big meetings (offline) and 3 weekly meetings (based on each group’s agreement). This event lasted more than a month and was attended by approximately 30 people, all of whom were SAFEL members.
In this event, we have Kak Kartika Nathania Ariesta as our main coach for MC Club 2022. She has experience in MC and is also a professional MC. Kak Kartika also gives all the materials to help the participants know more about MC. This year, MC Club was more focused on formal, semi-formal, and non-formal MC and consisted of 5 groups with 2 coaches in each group. For the coaches, we have the staffs of SAFEL, staff of SAFELITE, and members of SDC.
On October 12, 2022, the first large meeting was held, with several agenda items such as describing the MC Club, introducing the main coach as well as the coaches, and discussing group distribution. Kak Kartika also provided the initial materials on the definition of MC as well as what it takes to become a great MC. There is a Q&A session where participants can ask Kak Kartika questions about the materials. In the second and third big meetings, the agendas were the same, which included the presentation from Kak Kartika and a Q&A session. Materials In the second big meeting, there will be a presentation about the tones, intonations, articulations, and tempos. Script writing is also material for the third big meeting.
For weekly meetings, each group has a different schedule and different methods for meetings (online via Zoom Meeting and offline). The coaches have to explain more about Kak Kartika’s materials in the previous big meeting and in the Q&A and practice sessions.
In MC Club 2022, there are two projects. The first project requires participants to create a video using a script written by the committee. The first project held after the second big meeting is done. The finale project is that the participants should make a video with the script that they made before. After the third big meeting, the final project will be held. They have to upload it on their own Gdrive and collect the links on GForm. Then, Kak Kartika, the main coach, will rate each video, and the winner of the finale project will be announced at the last meeting on November 23, 2022. This year, the winner of formal MC is Ni Made Ari Candra Asih, the winner of semi-formal MC is Bela Juliana, and the winner of non-formal MC is Lian Handayani Shamputri. There is also Superman, the best group in MC Club 2022. -Adji & Dera
