What benefits can we obtain if we are fluent in many languages? Well, it will bring a lot of benefits for sure. One way to be fluent is to start learning a foreign language that we find interesting. Therefore, SAFEL facilitates its staff to master this skill by holding Minggu Lingua. Minggu lingua, or mingling for short, is a program from the FOLT Department that aims to provide foreign language training for SAFEL’s crew. This program is available for free. Mingling takes place twice a week on Zoom Cloud Meetings from July 4th to July 29th, 2022.
Previously, the committee prepared several things, such as choosing the language to be learned, contacting the language tutor, and conducting open registration. French was chosen as the language to be learned. Then, we contacted the tutor, Madame Ayu, to ask if she could teach in our class. She accepted our request and willingly agreed to be the tutor. For your information, she used to be one of SAFEL’s staff.
Furthermore, the committee conducted open registration for mingling participants, and the target number of participants to be achieved was 20. Within 2 weeks, the target was finally achieved. In the first week, we learned how to introduce ourselves in French. In the second week, we learn how to introduce someone, either our idol or our family. In the third week, we learn to express our favorite things and preferences. And last week, we deep dived into the previous material. In each meeting, we practiced speaking in a conversation given by the tutor.

We used Google Classroom to share the material and recordings so the participants could review them and also to collect the tasks. At the end, we held an examination to measure how much the participants understood in learning French. The examination requires the participants to attend at least 6 meetings and collect 3 tasks. The committee gave presents to the 3 participants with the highest scores.
