Festival Budaya Internasional is an annual event organized by Cross-Cultural Understanding and Learning Media or CCU-LM department under SAFEL UNY. This event aims to introduce foreign cultures to the public especially UNY students. Besides that, audiences can improve their English skill as an international language.

FESBUD itself is usually held offline in auditorium UNY with several series of events, such as talk shows with foreigners, performances representing several countries, stands by the representative countries, costume stands, the game stands, and photo booths. There, visitors can interact directly with foreigners, taste the specialties from several countries made by their natives, take photos together, make new friends, wear traditional costumes from several countries, and most importantly to learn about foreign cultures together.

Unfortunately, this year, FESBUD could not be held as usual because of the impossible circumstances. So, during this pandemic, we have to transform it a little bit to a form of the online event. FESBUD was held online on YouTube SAFEL UNY OFFICIAL on 24th October 2019. “Agartha: Find Million Secrets in a Wonderful World” as our theme, we would like to provide audiences with informative yet interesting presentations from native speakers.

Agartha is a hidden paradise that holds many wonders. This theme allows the audiences to awaken their fantasy-mysterious place. Our focus as committees is to present enchanting myths from several countries. Why it should be a myth? Because myth is a form of culture. We can say that myth as a folklore can be a projection from a collective fantasy, as a learning tool, and a reflection of a certain norm in society.

This year, we invited native speakers from Ecuador, Japan, and Philippine, also Bali as the representative from Indonesia. During this event, the audience can do a live chat while enjoying performances from Safelite, SDC, Indonesian dance, Buchaecum, and Hikari. We also provided a QnA session on Instagram related to this event.

For your information, both SDC and Safelite are sub-department and a community under the CCU-LM department. SDC is engaged in modern dance while Safelite is in music. As we know, dance and music can be a representative of culture too.

Last but not least, we can say that this year’s FESBUD was held successfully. Let’s pray together, so that this pandemic will over really soon. Hopefully, we can see each other at Auditorium UNY next year to drop the beat, party, learn together, and be smarter. See you at FESBUD 2021! –Yela Putu Puspita Dewi
