UNESHCO (UNY English Competition) is a National English Competition for university students held annually by UKM Bahasa Asing “SAFEL” (Student Activity Forum of Foreign Languages) in Yogyakarta State University (UNY). This competition is one of the events in commemorating Dies Natalis UNY, which consists of the speech and micro-teaching competitions. Every year, UNESHCO collaborates with other competitions in UNYFEST (UNY Festival).

To make sure everyone’s safety and keep celebrating this event, UNESHCO #7 was held online on Friday and Saturday, May 27th and 28th, 2022, on the Zoom Meeting platform. This year, UNESHCO came up with a grand theme: “Stand Up, Speak Up, and Let Your Voice Reach Out To The World”.

The first day of UNESHCO #7 was the preliminary round for the speech competition. During this round, the judges assessed the persuasive speech videos that participants had sent in during the registration period. After the assessment, the top 8 finalists will be invited to the Zoom platform on the next day to conduct the semifinal and final rounds. Meanwhile, the assessment session of the Micro-Teaching competition was also conducted on the first day. In this session, the judges assessed micro-teaching videos submitted by the ten finalists. From this point, three participants were chosen to be the winners of the Micro-Teaching competition.

On the second day of UNESHCO #7, the semifinal and final rounds of the speech competition were conducted via Zoom. For the semifinal round, the top 8 finalists delivered their extemporaneous speeches. Following that, the three participants with the highest semifinal round scores advanced to the final round to deliver their impromptu speeches. At the end of this round, there was also a Q&A session.

 

The results of the speech and micro-teaching competitions were announced during the closing ceremony of UNYFEST #10 on May, 28th, 2022. Via Zoom Meeting. The first winner of the speech competition was taken by Maria Imaculata A.W. from Sanata Dharma University, followed respectively as runners-up by Ningsih Yulianti from Siliwangi University, and Febe Maria F.N. from Bina Nusantara University. Following that, Qonita Labibah Rahmah from Yogyakarta State University was chosen as the favorite speaker. Meanwhile, in Micro-Teaching, the first winner was Apri Rahmanto from Yogyakarta State University, followed respectively as runners-up by Fikria Rozi from Yogyakarta State University, and Maria Niken Pangesti from Teknokrat University.
