“One Day in Action” or ODIA is a workshop that aims to train “SAFEL” Crews and members in public speaking. One Day in Action 2021 brought the theme “Voice Your Words to Shake the World.” Different from the previous year, this year’s ODIA focuses on speech.
One Day in Action needs to be carried out considering that so many “SAFEL” events require qualified and trained crews, especially in public speaking. By this event, we hoped that crews and members of “SAFEL” could develop their public speaking ability. Besides that, this event is also the essence of public speaking itself, which includes practice making a good speech.
ODIA was held on Saturday, February 27th. Unfortunately, due to the unfinished Covid-19 pandemic, ODIA 2021 was carried out online through Zoom Meetings with an activity format like a webinar workshop with two sessions, namely material and practical sessions. Forty-two participants registered in this event, and 40 of them have confirmed their attendance.
This event was filled with extraordinary speakers, namely Mr. Choirul Anam. He is an expert in the field of public speaking, especially in speech. He narrowed the discussion towards one type of speech, which is a persuasive speech.
After the delivery of the material and the question and answer session, it was continued with a practical session followed by all participants divided into six groups. The Practical session is in the form of composing speech in two languages, Bahasa Indonesia and English. Participants in each group were demanded to make a speech script with the theme “why you should join “SAFEL.” This practical session utilized the breakout room feature in Zoom Meetings.
In making the speech, each group was guided by one person from the committee in charge. The committee directs the participants to determine points on the predetermined theme and guides them in translating the speech script. At the end of the group discussion, each group had to appoint two representatives to deliver their speech in the main room.
After the group discussion session finished, it was continued with the delivery of speeches by each group representative. The delivery of the first speech began with Indonesian speech and was continued with English vocabulary. The speech delivered by the participants is directly assessed by the speaker and was ended with awarding. There were several categories in the awarding session: the best Indonesian speaker, the best English speaker, and the best team.
